Rosa by Nikki Giovani

Rosa is written by Nikki Giovani and illustrated by Bryan Collier.  Rosa recieved both the Caldecott Medal and the Coretta Scott King Award for its beautiful illustrations that combine watercolor and collage.  This book is a biography based on African American Rosa Parks historical moment during a time of segregation.  While traveling home in segregated Alabama on a city bus, Rosa is ordered to give up her seat to a white passenger.  Sitting in the ¨nuetral"section, she refuses to give up her seat.  The driver calls the police and she is arrested.  However, news of her arrest resulted in a community coming together and boycotting the buses until segregation was over.  This lasts almost a year until their goal is finally reached.
