Firebird is written by Caldecott honoree Misty Copeland and illustrated by Christopher Myers. Firebird was awarded a 2012 Coretta Scott King Award for its vibrant illustrations that captures the thrill and movement of dance. A new ballet dancer dreams of being just like Misty Copeland, a soloist for the American Ballet Theatre. She longs to be like the Firebird you see on TV, yet she feels so very small. As she is about to give up, she meets her inspiration Misty Copeland. She shares her own journey and helps to motivate her and build her confidence as a new dancer.
